Services
Wheelchair Van:

This is the lowest level of service that our company provides.

  • Patients are transported via wheelchair and do not need an attendant.

  • They are able to self-transfer and have no stairs at either the sending or receiving facilities.

Essentially a wheelchair van patient should be able to be safely transported with just one person, regardless if other people are available to assist with the transport. All wheelchair van drivers are certified in both CPR and First Aid.

Gurney Van:

Gurney van patients are those patients who are medically required to lie down during their transport.  Specific reasons for this can include a history of quadriplegia, chronic back pain or hemiparesis from a stroke.

What separates the gurney van patient from the Basic Life Support patient is that there is no medical intervention, including supervision, required for their transport.  All gurney van crews are certified in both CPR and First Aid.

Although our company requires one of the crew members sit with the patient, strictly speaking a gurney van patient should be able to be seat-belted onto a gurney and require no form of help or supervision during their transport.

Basic Life Support :

The patient requiring Basic Life Support (BLS) transport needs either some form of medical intervention or skilled supervision. Some examples of a BLS patient are as follows:

  • Fractured hip requiring immobilization
  • Medical condition with underlying (severe) dementia or Alzheimer’s
  • Isolation precautions from either VRE or MRSA (resistance to highest level of antibiotics)
  • Aspiration precautions
  • Difficulty breathing, assistance required with oxygen administration.
  • Pain

Certain patients may qualify for either gurney van or for BLS. This can sometimes be a difficult determination but when in doubt we will always send the higher level of service. It is far more appropriate to err on the side of caution, since there will be virtually no medical care provided on a gurney van call. All BLS units are staffed with Emergency Medical Technicians.
